Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is looking for a forward thinking, engaging individual who has the leadership skills to take on the full responsibility for leading the management of their joint-venture (JV) in China, as the General Manager of China. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Projects in Asia-Pacific, this individual will ultimately be responsible for leading and implementing Wood’s growth strategy within China, whilst establishing and achieving short-term and long-term goals and plans whilst ensuring the successful and profitable growth of the business. This will involve the management of the overall service to provide a range of activities to enhance our operational performance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing leadership and strategic direction for the Wood China JV entity and set the direction for the company’s management team and employees
  • The continued growth, organically or inorganically, of Wood China’s revenues, profits, capabilities, products and services
  • Establishing and maintaining healthy relationships with key clients and projects
  • Develop and lead a strong Strategy & Development / Business Development team to ensure long term relationship with key clients for winning future projects
  • Set, deliver, communicate the company vision and promote the principles of Wood Values at all times
  • Providing strong leadership and governance to embed global Wood policies and procedures into Wood China’s local practices, encouraging integration and collaboration with our global company in all areas where it clearly adds value to the business
  • Effectively managing day-to-day operations of the business and ensure compliance and operational excellence
  • Engaging with the APAC team to develop, communicate and re-forecast short-range plans and long-range plans to the global team
  • Develop and implement strategies to position Wood China well in the marketplace and enhance its competitiveness to win more work and access new markets and potential clients
  • Ensuring a robust talent development and succession planning strategy to retain talent and build a pipeline of new leaders
  • Promoting and demonstrating the principles of Wood’s HSSE standards at all times

Skills / Qualifications

  • degree qualified in engineering related qualification – preferred

Knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Significant experience at a senior level within the Chinese market
  • Good proficiency in written and spoken English & Mandarin, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Extremely strong communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders
  • Prior experience with EPC (or EPCm) industry in China and/or Asia Pacific Region
  • Superior knowledge of business functions, with keen budgeting and finance skills
  • Understanding of complex strategic commercial and business models
  • Detailed awareness of external factors, competitors and their impact on the group’s strategy and success
  • Current and future industry trends
  • Demonstrated innovative strategies and implemented long term solutions
